Peter Kim, Therapist, CADC, LSW, CCATP

Peter is a Licensed Social Worker (LSW), CCATP (Certified Clinical Anxiety Treatment Professional) and CADC (Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor). He was born in South Korea and immigrated here at the age of 4 to the city of Chicago. He is a husband and a father of twin boys who were born in 2022! Peter completed his bachelor’s degree in psychology from Wheaton college where he received a full ride scholarship as a Colson Scholar. He then went on to attend University of Chicago where he received his master’s in social work. Peter has been working in the mental health field for over 5 years and was recently the lead therapist at the adult residential addiction treatment center at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights.

Peter is a behavioral therapist well versed in DBT, CBT, ACT, and Psychodynamic therapy modalities. He does not believe in a one size fits all approach and wants to tailor treatment to the person rather than conformity to an ideology. Peter has experience working with all age groups as well as experience with treating people with ranging mental health conditions. His philosophy is to save lives at all costs. He is a fierce advocate for harm reduction in substance use treatment, with a heart to reduce stigma around substance use and the misconceptions about the people involved.

For leisure, Peter is an avid adventurer who enjoys going on hikes and exploring new places. He is an avid music festival goer and enjoys being immersed into music. In his downtime, he enjoys playing video games as well as watching movies with his family. Peter looks forward to being an ally to the Native community as part of the AIHSC team!
