Therapy Services
American Indian Health Services of Chicago, Inc. provides outpatient therapy and counseling to children, teenagers, and adults who are struggling with depression, anxiety and/or substance use. We also offer support for domestic and sexual assault survivorship, LGBTQ2S affirming care and more. AIHSC uses evidenced-based models while maintaining culturally appropriate trauma informed care and treatment approaches to substance use and suicide prevention. AIHSC believes culturally competent care is the center of all services we provide, and as such, all our clinicians provide comprehensive, culturally sensitive care. Individual therapy is tailored to individual needs with evidence-based practices implemented to help each individual reach their personal goals. Our providers work with individuals to discuss their goals, develop a treatment plan and provide services on an outpatient basis. Appointments are available with our providers with flexibility in scheduling, including evening clinic hours and via telehealth.
What to Expect in Individual Therapy
If you are coming to therapy for the first time, let us tell you a little bit about what to expect. The first session of therapy is called an intake appointment. This session is primarily so you and your therapist can get to know each other. The therapist will ask you what you want to work on, what your symptoms are, how long you may have had your symptoms and what things you are looking for in therapy. The therapist will ask questions about your history, work, school, relationships, and the like, to get a better understanding of what your life is like outside of the sessions. Sessions are typically 50 minutes long and scheduled on a weekly basis. Each therapist keeps their own schedule, so you can schedule directly with your therapist or the front desk is always available as well! If weekly sessions are not what you are looking for, feel free to talk to your therapist about other options available. During the session, feel free to ask the therapist any questions you may have about the process, your therapist’s professional background, or expectations moving forward.
